# Troubleshooting or Assessing Damage to the Tag

Over the course of a season, through normal wear and tear, Tags can begin to display some inconsistent behaviors. These behaviors can be indicative of a deeper operational issue. If you run into any tags that don't seem to be acting quite right, you can reference some previously encountered issues below in an attempt to troubleshoot an encountered problem.

### **Identified Issue= No Comms/No GPS**

**Known Causes**

* Telco/ SIM related Issue; Solution: Contact flaik to Open Investigation
* Known Cause: Tag PCB is physically damaged (Antenna/SIM port); Solution: Contact flaik to request replacements
* Known Cause: Startup Issue but did not fail BIST; Solution: Attempt to reset Tag

### **Identified Issue= No Tag LED off Dock**

**Known Causes**

* Battery Degradation/Swelling causes battery to short out when removed from power, tag powers down instantly; Solution: Contact flaik to request replacements or repairs
* Broken or Damaged LED, can identify as issue if the Tag tones when docked/undocked or if the Tag activates the docks cup LED when docked; Solution: Remove from fleet and inform flaik, device will need to be sent off for repair.

### **Identified Issue= Tag Won't Charge**

**Known Causes**

* Battery Degradation/Swelling causes battery to short out, tag can't power on; Solution: Contact flaik to request replacements or repairs
* Battery Degradation/Swelling causes battery to short out when removed from power, tag powers down instantly; Solution: Contact flaik to request replacements or repairs
* Water ingress has caused oxidation/corrosion to form on the Tag PCB and affected the ability of the Tag to charge; Solution: Contact flaik to request replacements or repairs
* Micro-fractures form around Back Plastic Electrical Contacts and allow water ingress, as made apparent by charge issues; Solution: Request replacements from flaik

### **Physical Damage**

**Common Causes**

* Damaged Housing caused by Impact or Neglect(ie. encounter with a snowcat, particularly hard fall)
* Micro-fractures form around electrical contacts of tag back plastic and allow water ingress; Usually characterized as a charge Issue.
* The LED can be damaged when the tag experiences blunt force.
* Ripped Strap, usually related to especially cold days; Replace with spare cage assembly

### When to Contact Support

Folks often ask "How many bad tags is normal?" The truth is, it depends, but if you are seeing multiple tags with the same issue, contact support by sending a list of the tag IDs and issue to <resortsupport@flaik.com>

We will keep track of the issues, let you know if you should set the tags aside or send them back, and handle getting you replacements as needed.
