Cleaning and Disinfecting Guidelines

  • Turn off and/or disconnect the device from AC/DC power.

  • Use only approved cleaning and disinfecting agents specified.

  • Follow the manufacturer's directions on the cleaning and disinfecting agent for how to properly and safely use their product.

  • Never spray or pour chemical agents directly onto the device. Do not allow liquid to pool.

Approved Cleaning Agents

Isopropyl alcohol

Ammonium chloride

Bleach: Sodium hypochlorite

Hydrogen peroxide

Mild dish soap

Cleaning Instructions

Cleaning Housing

  • Using the alcohol wipes, wipe the housing including keys and in-between keys.

Cleaning Display

  • The display can be wiped down with the alcohol wipes, but care should be taken not to allow any pooling of liquid around the edges of the display. Immediately dry the display with a soft, non-abrasive cloth to prevent streaking. (Not applicable to RFD8500 and RFD2000)

Cleaning Exit Window

  • Wipe the scanner exit window periodically with a lens tissue or other material suitable for cleaning optical material such as eyeglasses.

Cleaning Cradle Connectors

  • Remove the DC power cable from the cradle.

  • Dip the cotton portion of the cotton-tipped applicator in isopropyl alcohol.

  • Rub the cotton portion of the cotton-tipped applicator along the pins of the connector. Slowly move the applicator back and forth from one side of the connector to the other. Do not leave any cotton residue on the connector.

  • All sides of the connector should also be rubbed with the cotton-tipped applicator.

  • Remove any lint left by the cotton-tipped applicator.

  • If grease and other dirt can be found on other areas of the cradle, use a lint-free cloth and alcohol to remove.

  • Allow at least 10 to 30 minutes (depending on ambient temperature and humidity) for the alcohol to air dry before applying power to cradle. If the temperature is low and humidity is high, longer drying time is required. Warm temperature and low humidity requires less drying time.

Cleaning Battery Connnectors

  • Remove the main battery from the device.

  • Dip the cotton portion of the cotton tipped applicator in isopropyl alcohol.

  • Rub the cotton portion of the cotton tipped applicator back and forth across the battery contacts on the bottom of the battery. Do not leave any cotton residue on the contacts.

  • Repeat at least three times.

  • Use the cotton tipped applicator dipped in alcohol to remove any grease and dirt near the connector area.

  • Use a dry cotton tipped applicator and repeat steps 3 through 5.

  • Spray compressed air on the connector area by pointing the tube/nozzle about ½ inch away from the surface.

  • Inspect the area for any grease or dirt, repeat if required.

  • Replace the battery in the device.

Cautions

  • After cleaning the cradle connectors with bleach-based chemicals, follow the Cleaning Cradle Connectors instructions to remove bleach from the connectors.

  • Do not clean the device or expose it to water or moisture when the battery cover is removed.
