Scanning 101: Scanning a Class (with flaik Tags)

On a day-to-day basis, the flaik scanner will be in Lockdown Mode. When in Lockdown Mode, you won't be able to access anything outside of the flaik Scanner Program, some basic device settings, as well as a restricted web browser for accessing flaik.com. If you need to troubleshoot connections or some other task, you'll touch base with a flaik Team Member so that we can provide the password required to exit Lockdown Mode.

To get started, click on the flaikScanner application.

Once you've opened the application, you'll be presented with a screen with two primary options. "Status" and "Set scan mode."

Status is used to indicate operational settings, diagnosis purposes and troubleshooting.

Set scan mode is for daily scanning of classes.

To get started with scanning, click Set scan mode.

After you click Set scan mode, you'll be greeted by the initial Set scan mode screen. These are the preset modes that you (or flaik) setup prior to the start of the season. In the example below, the resort has options for both Kids and Adults. Think of scan modes as a Master Filter, a way to enable the scanner to manage multiple options while not overwhelming the screen real estate.

After clicking on Kids, you're brought through to the Select Scan Type screen. Here you'll find options such as Ski, Ride, and Special in addition to being able to Scan in a Late Student or Scan a Student Switch.

Clicking on Ski will then bring up an additional screen where you can select the class type.

After you select the class type, you'll then need to select the level for the class.

After the level, you'll be presented with the scanning page.

Here you need to scan the lift pass (barcode or RFID) of the instructor first and then the barcode on the instructor's flaik Tag. To scan, either press the trigger or (if you're not using a trigger) the yellow button on the left hand side of the scanner.

The scanner can scan both RFID and Barcode. With RFID, place the top of the scanner near the RFID pass that you want to scan. For Barcode Scanning, make sure that the red crosshair is aimed at the middle of the barcode you want to scan.

After you've successfully scanned a pass, it will highlight this in green. After successfully scanning both a Pass and Tag, the entire screen will flash green to let you know that you are good to go for the next scan.

After you've scanned the instructor, scan the the pass of the first student and then their flaik tag. Continue through the group until you have finished. When you have finished scanning all students, click Next.

*Note: If a pass has been forgotten by either an instructor or student, the user may select the Keyboard Icon which appears in either the Lift Pass or flaik ID Buttons to manually enter a name or Tag ID.

After clicking Next, you'll be presented with a summary of what you scanned - here's your last chance to edit anything. If you are good to go, click on Submit class.

Now you are ready to start on the next class.
